Keele’s Estates Department needed to extend the functionality of its Energy Management software to speed up report creation, monitor and reduce energy use, and to simplify some key processes where stages were being missed.
Founded in 1949, Keele University campus, near Newcastle-under-Lyme in Staffordshire, was the first new “British university” in the 20th century.
Graduates obtain some of the best academic and employment success rates across the country.
The site is the UK’s largest integrated campus with many of the students and staff living on site.
A large Estates Department is required to administrate the estate and provide upkeep of the many residences and facilities. The Energy Management system tracks the installation, upkeep and costs incurred from energy meters, with a particular emphasis on sustainable use.
Their current Energy Management software had some issues which needed addressing, a lot of time was spent creating reports which should have been straightforward and easy to produce. In addition to this, a number of processes contained manual elements which were at risk of being forgotten. New users also had trouble learning the current processes and the software was very reliant on key personnel.
The current software needed modifying and improving to help save time, automate the manual steps, and provide better and more comprehensive reporting functionality. Simplification of the software would also facilitate a better understanding of the processes for new users.
“Simplicity is the prerequisite for reliability.”
Triangle provided software amendments which streamlined the processes and automated or integrated manual processes into the system. Reporting functionality was also overhauled to allow quick and easy report creation. A new, cleaner interface now helps guide users through the processes and gives them a better understanding of how the system works, and the changes made to the way in which the system assigns energy usage patterns will help save time spent using the system.
We have since written various types of bespoke software for Keele University – from facilities management software to purchase and invoicing software as well as energy management solutions.
Having worked closely with their IT and Estate and Facilities Management Teams for the past 10 years, Triangle feels extremely privileged to be allowed to sit and advise at their IT strategy meetings – keeping them up-to-date on the latest technological advances and software industry developments to help them reach their vision.
