Schema.org and Google searches

04 October 2013

Some time ago, I posted an article predicting the increasing importance of structured data to Google and other search engine's results.

As many websites are driven by database software, written by software developers and contain largely structured data, it makes sense that if we can advise Google and others about the structure of our web pages, the better their search results will be.

Since my original post, Google now support a number of structured data types. These include Author, Publisher, Organisation, Location, Product, Event and a few others.

There are many more data elements described by schema.org and it is only a matter of time before Google makes use of them all.
